About GameBoom!

Connecting players to the game

It seems nowadays that large corporations and businesses decide what we must play, based on their own definitions of "fun" and "cool". With this in mind, our mission is to empower gamers to inform and learn from other gamers about what is really fun and cool to play.

Our websites will cover all gaming genres and platforms, but we will prominently display and promote Open Source games. We believe that the future of gaming belongs to freedom. Not only freedom of expression and creativity, but also the passionate communities that develop and support them with open minds. Those relationships sparked the interest and curiosity that started it all.

Our members can create discussion groups, post on their personal blogs, submit games for review, post their gaming videos and screenshots, submit news and gossip about gaming, recruit new players for their clans, and always express their true opinions and obliterate the lame ones.

Brief history and outlook

In early 2007 (around February) GhostShell started DretchStorm.com, a forum website supporting the players of the Tremulous game server with the same name, DretchStorm (DS). DS was and still is a rebel game server, guided almost entirely by its players. With a lot of work and dedication from its small community, it has cemented itself as one of the most active and popular Tremulous servers. That same year in early Autumn, and after a significant surge of members during Summer, Tremulous started a slow decline of its userbase. This prompted the DS members to vote and approve a move to support other games using our community concept. In March 2008 the Obliter8 (o8) discussion groups opened, adding support for any games that our members play.

Currently the GameBoom! community encompasses a healthy and varied bunch of gamers from all backgrounds. Our ongoing effort is to provide all the tools that gamers need to answer the perennial question: What will I play today?
