*Big thank you to sexy Jonata for is collaboration

The idea is to create a streaming internet radio for the Obliter8
gaming community.

Nothing too fancy to start with..

A simple playlist of music, MP3's could eventually be contributed by the
members of the community.

(a disclaimer could be made, stating that the mp3 was legally own, pre-uploading)

Or we could also skip the website, to not stir shit and bring problems to ghost.
We could share the mp3 with the server's host by simply creating a gmail account where people could send their mp3 for the radio.

There would be no downloading of mp3...

At some point if it goes well, the community radio could be used for
announcing special events, news about the community and self-promotion
with advertisements about "Obliter8.com the bestest gaming community"

None of these announcements would be live, it will be pre-recorded, approved and then added to the playlist.

The idea, is not to have a DJ or an howard Stern wannabe...

But, if someone had good content and was able to present it nicely..
He could have a pre-recorded "radio show" that would be added in the playlist.

For those familiar with the show/broadcast that Dasprid does/did (not sure), well it could be something along those lines, but the show would be added in the "regular" 24/7 playlist and could be "re-runned" through out the week at various hours.

[note]I'm not talking about myself here, but i'm sure there's a few audio-wise in this community Eye-wink

For me, Music and adds about the community would be nice enough.

Personally and a lot of others are listening to music or internet broadcast
while surfing the web or playing games online.

It can also be integrated to the reward system "credits", by giving
the members who have reached a higher level on the site, blocks
of time on the radio, so they could decide the playlist for their giving time.

This is the best site i've seen so far on how to set up a streaming-radio.

Finally, nothing is set in stone here..
I'm proposing this as a community project and a nice experiment
for us to do Smiling

So developpement and realisation of this, depends on you guys.

heckle @ Thu, 10/09/2008 - 2:16am · #403 About 4 or 5 years ago I used to have a timeslot on an internet radio station. It was called DominateRadio. There were about 30 different people who used to have spots (some daily). I even had a daily slot near the end. I stopped due to inflated egos and internal politics.

Anyway, there was a central server that used to stream the music. We used shoutcast to connect to it by ip and username/password (to keep the unwanted out). We would play the mp3 files from our pc and users would listen from the main server.

I think that would be a better way to do this if we did it at all. I think that uploading music/audio files would be too much unless they were interview type files. And if there were times when the source streaming stopped, then a serverside playlist could go into effect.

Just my thoughts. And very nice graphic sunburn! +5 Heckle points for the pic!

STFU-Ender @ Thu, 10/09/2008 - 8:46am · #404 I'd be all for doing podcast-style audio blogs. Information on development, etc. I also have a server we could use, at least for the next several months. The upload rate on this server is about 5 Mbps, I believe, which could handle a modest load. It runs Ubuntu.

Vortexx @ Thu, 10/09/2008 - 9:48am · #406 I'm down for providing some content. Probably music, as I'm somewhat of a DJ myself. As some of you know, I make my own music, and I also have a lot of other resources for getting cool music on the air without needing to jump through any sort of hoops. Count me in if this gets going.

StarshipTrooper @ Thu, 10/09/2008 - 12:47pm · #408 if i had a timeslot, it would all be 60's to 90's-ish (no hair metal) classic and progressive rock, you know:
-rush
-led zepplin
-acdc
-echo and the bunnymen
-inxs
-journey
-black sabbath
-guns and roses
-metallica
-jefferson airplane
-duran duran
and others, im pretty sure no one would care. :'(

Also, The Godfather is the greatest movie ever created.

What about Rocky Horror Picture Show?

I have a very wide assortment of music I could play. Well over 100 gig of music. Not alot of rap or country. But I have almost everything else in between.

Nice Smiling

People with experience, server and content to share!!
That's a better start then i thought Sticking out tongue

@Heckle: I didn't know it was possible to "sub-stream" at a central server, nice feature.
@Starship Same reply as TheMe, Those sound good to me!!

I made this *sample of a schedule to show what was on my mind while making this project.

Sample_GSNX~RadioSample_GSNX~Radio

Now, this is just a *sample..

I had in mind, that the shows were Weekly based, and re-runs of those shows were broadcast
all week at various times to cover different timezones with the same content.

And also if someone missed the "Original" broadcast of a show, he can always try to catch one of its "Re-runs" during the week..

The other aspect of this, is also the fact that it's less of a burden for people to make a 2
hours show/playlist each week then each day.

But it's all about time and commitment, if someone wants to put more time and energy at this..

Good for him and let him have more "Original" shows and less "Re-run" of is shows.

*Note: Names used in that sample are fictif and none are related to any known person, if they are.... it's purely accidental Eye-wink

Don't worry, I am by no means purely techno/dance. I have an ENORMOUS range of musical tastes, from new age to techno to punk to rock to classical to polka to hip hop to rap to goodness-knows-what to...well, you get the point.

If I were to do a show, I'd probably start out doing stuff I'm most familiar with (Techno, as you electronica-noobs call it), but I'd get really eclectic really fast.
