Looks a little familiar. :S
Recently, IllFonic has announced that Nexuiz, the popular open-source game, is being ported to Xbox 360 and Playstation in a new next-gen format. The game will probably feature all of the gameplay elements from the original, free version, but with updated graphics. I don't think it's been announced if it will still have grappling hooks or jet-packs, or perhaps they have been integrated into the mutators system. I think while it probably won't have the same community as the original, being on consoles and all, however I'm willing to bet that it will still be a great game.
Expect Nexuiz on PS3 and 360 to come out this summer.
I think this announcement proves that there's great value in open source game development and we are just scrapping the surface. Not only is cheaper to develop in an open environment but also the players get to contribute the features that they would like to see in the game.
Anyways, I'm glad to see that the original developers haven't given up either. I'm planning to both pick up Nexuiz (if the reviews are good) and Xonotic when they come out.
P.S. I'm still waiting for the next version of Tremulous. I don't want to have to get used to playing again, only to have to get used to a new version. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this summer. It's a good thing Dark Legion canceled Tremulous on Xbox, however. It's the one game I couldn't bear to not play on my computer.
