I have been playing RIFT Online, an MMO similar in flavor to World of Warcraft. The game is currently in open beta until March 1st, after that it will require you to purchase the game and subscribe.
RIFT is pretty much a standard MMO, which feels a lot like WoW. However, the game has some noticeably distinguishing characteristics. You start out with three "souls", and eventually you can acquire up to 8 (4 PvE Souls, 1 PvP Soul). You can customize your character to have 4 combinations of these talent trees (3 souls in each Role). Thus, even the Cleric (which is the healer class), can perform the tank, melee dps, caster dps, and healing roles in dungeons/instances.
Another important feature of RIFT is random locations for Rift encounters. A Rift is basically a world instance which anybody can participate in. After defeating the instance, you will receive rare items and currency which can be used for purchasing gear. The only problem with the Rift system is that you may find a Rift in the middle of the road which is 10 levels higher than you, not being taken care of by anyone.
In short, Rift is a standard MMO with a few bells and whistles, but it is still enjoyable.
