If you have been visiting our site regularly, you must have noticed that we try to track many free games in our Games section. And that any of our members can add their own review, screenshots and guides to each game page. This for sure help other people decide whether or not to try the game. Reviews are nice but there's a problem with them, you are letting someone else judge for you. What if that person doesn't like RPG's and you do? Or doesn't have the gaming experience (Atari 2600) needed for a complete and unbiased opinion? The fact that nobody can accurately match your gaming background makes most game reviews irrelevant. The only real way to make an opinion is to download and play the game yourself. And then, maybe post a review of it on this site Smiling

I try to download and play each and every game posted here, I enjoy finding that gem game that I didn't know about. And looking at our ever-growing games list, I must have done it at least fifty times. But if you simply don't have the time to download, install and uninstall you can save yourself a lot by getting a live DVD preloaded with games.

A live games DVD, as the name implies, is a DVD packed with games (some free, some commercial) that boots a Linux live image. Basically, it's a self-contained Linux system that "lives" in a DVD and it has many games pre-configured and ready to play. So it doesn't matter if your system is Linux or Windows (sorry Macs!) you can play all those games.

Here's a list of the most popular live game DVD's:

In a future post we'll delve further into how each of these live game DVDs fare with satisfying gamer needs. Undoubtedly, they help expose many non-Linux gamers to some games unavailable to them. And they help promote Linux as a platform for gaming, which has been undermined for a long time.

If you have experience with any of these DVDs please tell us below.
