Doukutsu Monogatari review by StarshipTrooper Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story) is one of the few games that are literally flawless. The 8-bit graphics and the retro songs go together like peas and carrots.

Game: Doukutsu Monogatari

While not open source, Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story in english) is a platform shoot-em-up in the style of Metroid, Megaman and features some memorable charcters and a nice story. The best part is that this is a complete game, like any commercial game, but it's completely free! There multiple versions for Mac, Windows, Linux, homebrew version for PSP, Xbox and a demo/work in progress for DS.
