When you start a new class the initial attribute values are randomly assigned (read here for information about classes). And the most important attribute of a class is its Hit Points (HP), but you won't know the value until you have maxed the character to level 20 -- here I will give you some hints about it.

Take for example Necromancer (my favorite class). Its attribute chart looks as below:
click for big chartclick for big chart
As you can see the average value for Hit Points is 575HP@lvl20, so if you reach lvl20 and your necro under 575HP then save your gear in a chest and suicide it. Repeat this process until you get a value above 575HP at level 20. A value like 590HP is great, 600HP is awesome. Looking at the chart again, you can see that the cap is 670HP and you want to get close to that -- most likely you won't get more than 600HP but it's all random, you could get lucky.

Now that you have this new knowledge, you'll realize that the process of leveling to 20 and checking for suicide/start over can be long and tedious. So to make this easier, I have found the following formula that appears to work most of the time:

if HP_L10 < (HPCAP/2):
  suicide_character
else:
  check_for_L20
endif

What this means is that if at level 10 your character has HP greater than half of its HP cap, then you shouldn't even bother to continue and just suicide the character, else continue to level 20 and check HP again. This formula works about 85% of the time and will save you a ton of time. Example: Necromancer has HPCAP of 670HP (according to its chart) so you would check for 335HP at lvl 10.
