The Alarain mod is amazing! It's so good that when my friend came over (Guitar Hero addict) he was like WOAH how did you get Guitar Hero on your computer?!!?! The overall game play is pretty smooth; hold the keyboard like they say! It's the closest to a guitar hero-like clone for the PC.
The default graphics are quite crappy. If you want to seriously play it you need to get the Alarian mod. Also, to play the game you have to hold down the fret (f1-f4) and the press ENTER to play the note at the right time. That's pretty hard to get used to, but once you play some it gets easier (and more fun!) But overall, nothing too bad to complain about here!

A little searching turned up a working link at http://www.fretsonfire.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24930. Download the full 2.900 release and then add any 2.9xx patches.
