This will cover a stand alone Tremulous 1.1.0 installation with the back port for Windows.

The back port fixes some security issues as well as provides you with a player GUID

.
How to fresh install with the back port

First download and save the installer: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tremulous/tremulous-1.1.0-installer.exe?download

Perform the standard install as indicated here: http://dretchstorm.com/node/2546

Start up Tremulous, join a server, then exit and quit tremulous.(This step will set up your config files)

Download and save the back port: http://dretchstorm.com/files/o8groups/downloads/backport/win32/tremulous.exe

The first step is to rename the original Tremulous.exe and delete any shortcuts associated with it.
Go to the folder: C:\Program Files\Tremulous right click on the Tremulous.exe (little black dretch) and rename it to Trembak.exe. Go to: Start menu\All Programs\Tremulous right click on the Tremulous.exe and select delete. If you made a shortcut to your desktop also right click and delete that one, also check your quick launch tool bar for a shortcut and delete it.

So, we have effectively renamed the original Tremulous.exeto Trembak.exe, and removed all shortcuts linked to it.

Next, navigate to where you saved the back port. (notice it looks just like your original Tremulous.exe) You want to either drag it, or cut and paste it into the folder: C:\Program Files\Tremulous
From here on out you will use this new Tremulous.exe to start and play Tremulous, (Trembak.exe is kept for back up)

Now you can create new short cuts to your desktop, start menu and quick launch bar. Right click on the new Tremulous.exe and select send to Desktop. You now have a shortcut to your desktop to put where you desire.

Double Click this new Tremulous.exe and you are ready to play with a GUID!

Examining the new file structure created using the back port

When you start Tremulous using the new Tremulous.exe your file structure is changed a bit. You still retain the original folders at: C:\Program Files\Tremulous
Another Set of folders is now created, located at: C:\Documents and Settings\*Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous

By default this new set of folders is hidden from normal view so, if you look for it and can't find it, you will have to enable "show hidden files". To do this you want to open a file explorer window, like my computer. On top in the tools tab you will select Folder Options. Now, select the View tab, you will see an area labeled Advanced settings. In there is a folder named Hidden files and folders underneath it click the bubble labeled Show hidden files and folders. Select Apply and then OK. Now the "hidden" folders should be viewable.

*Tip: The new folders will not be created until you actually start Tremulous using the new Tremulous.exe.

.
The back port installation creates a hidden base folder at: C:\Documents and Settings\*Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous\base this hidden base folder works hand in hand with your original base folder.

*Tip: once you locate your hidden base folder, right click on it and select Send to.. Desktop(create shortcut). You will now have a shortcut on your desktop, giving you easy access to locating screenshots, demos, and condumps.

Maps can still be stored in: C:\Program Files\Tremulous\base however, any maps auto downloaded from a server will now be saved in the hidden base folder. (This is not a problem, they will still load and play normally)

Also, using the /screenshot, or /recorddemo console (~) commands will create the appropriate new folders in the hidden base folder. Condumps will now be saved in the hidden base folder as well.

If you are going to try your hand at creating binds for more efficient game play you will need to have a file named autoexec.cfg this file should be stored inside the hidden base folder.

An important file to recognize in your hidden base folder is theqkeyfile. This file is where your GUID is stored (so if you ever have to reinstall, make sure and copy this file somewhere safe first)

Another important file to take note of is the servercache.dat it is stored up one folder in: C:\Documents and Settings\*Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous (If you use the server unique GUID setting this file also has to be backed up somewhere safe if you reinstall)

While we are at the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\*Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous it is important to note that any time you play a modded server, a new mod folder will be created here (such as arcade, relic, or dev servers) Any demos recorded on modded servers will be placed in the corresponding folders at: C:\Documents and Settings\*Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous\modname\demos

Hopefully I have covered it all, if I have missed something or made a mistake somewhere please let me know.

* I have received feedback that this is a little chaotic, my apologies. I'll work on getting it nicer to the eyes as soon as I get some free time.
